Known for his sensitive arrangements of great texts, composer Brinsmead now turns to Latin for an upbeat, highly rhythmic setting worthy of being called Spiritus. Not abandoning his talent for great melodies, they are plentiful here, with all voice parts getting their turn. This stunning piece would make a fine concert opener.

Spiritus sanctus vivificans
vita movens omnia,
et radix est in omni creatura
ac omnia de inmunditia abluit,
tergens crimina ac ungit vulnera,
et sic est fulgens ac laudabilis vita,
suscitans et resuscitans
omnia.

Translated:
The Holy Spirit vivifying
life that’s all things moving,
the root of all creation
and washes out impurities
cleaning charges and anointing wounds
and thus life is luminous and praiseworthy
rousing and reviving
all.
