 Kenneth Carter

Kenneth Carter (b. 1975) has been a choral musician all of his life. The son of two professional musicians, he was trained in piano and voice from an early age. He holds a B.M., summa cum laude, from Westminster Choir College of Rider University and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in composition and theory from Rutgers University, where he studied with Gerald Chenoweth and Pulitzer Prize winner Charles Wuorinen.

Ken has held faculty positions at Westminster Choir College, the Mason Gross School of the Arts (Rutgers University), and the American Boychoir School. He has been a vocal music teacher and choral director at Arts High School in Newark, NJ for the past seven years. There, he specializes in developing musicianship and artistry, and building musical literacy with his students.

Ken has composed and arranged many choral and instrumental works, enjoying numerous commissions and performances, including several at regional and national conferences. A Kodály-inspired teacher and member of O.A.K.E., Ken was the recipient of the organization’s 2011 Ruth Boshkoff National Composition Competition. He and his wife Amy are the proud parents of three sons and reside in Ewing, NJ.
