 Peteris Barisons

Peteris Barisons (1904-1947) was a distinguished conductor, composer, and pedagogue. His early studies were at the Phonology Institute of Vigneru Ernests. In 1934 he graduated from the Latvian State Conservatory where his teachers included Vêtols and Ja\nis Medin?é. Later he taught at the conservatory, becoming chair of the composition department in 1944. Barisons& two symphonies, symphonic sketches Ligo and Legenda, and the suite Ziedu vija were all written in the 1930&s and show a poetic imagination. His cantata Dzimtenei (To My Native Land) was awarded first prize in the competition held by the Latvian Song Festival Association in 1935.
