Jeremy Samuel Faust is the Executive Director and was Founding Artistic Director of IOCSF. IOCSF's devotion to the promotion of new choral music by emerging and established composers has been nationally recognized with the 2011 ASCAP/Chorus America Award for Adventurous Programming and the 2010 American Prize Citation for Excellence in Music Education. Mr. Faust serves on the artistic staff and is president of Roomful of Teeth, the professional eight-voiced ensemble based at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, combining techniques from around the world with today's brightest composers. Mr. Faust has collaborated with composers including Jake Heggie and David Conte, and has conducted performances of the Canticum Novum Singers (NYC), the Yale Glee Club, Frederica von Stade, The Parthenia Consort of Viols, the U.C. Davis University and Concert Choirs, the Williams College Concert Choirs, and the College Light Opera Company. Mr. Faust studied conducting with Jeffrey Thomas (American Bach Soloists), Harold Rosenbaum (New York Virtuoso Singers), and enjoyed coaching sessions with Joe Jennings and Paul Hillier. Mr. Faust has a B.A. in Music with Honors (2001 Barrow Composition Prize) from Williams College, the M.A. in Music Composition and Theory from U.C. Davis (2003 Faculty Award), studying with Pablo Ortiz and Yu-Hui Chang, and at the Bowdoin Summer Music Festival with Samuel Adler and Aaron Jay Kernis. He has written two choral works with celebrated opera librettist Philip Littell (New York: Night for choir, baritone and piano duo, and Parvus Sum for Ian Robertson and the San Francisco Boys Chorus' 60th Anniversary Concert at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco) and arranged music for NBC Universal/BBC productions. Mr. Faust is a medical student at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.
Zane Fiala has been a member of IOCSF since 2007 and was named Artistic Director in 2009. During his time with the chorale, Mr. Fiala has collaborated on concerts and new works with composers including Jake Heggie, David Conte, Joseph Gregorio, Robin Estrada, and Shaffer McGee. In 2010, Mr. Fiala conducted IOCSF in the west coast premiere (and first ever unaccompanied performance) of Milton Babbitt's Music for the Mass, leading to the 2011 ASCAP/Chorus America Award for Adventurous Programming. As director for IOCSF, Mr. Fiala has also conducted a performance with the Yale Glee Club and has worked with guest clinicians including Ragnar Bohlin, Joseph Jennings, Ian Roberston, Magen Solomon and Vance George. His work with the ensemble has led to the premieres of eleven compositions including his own, "Es la maņana llena." Mr. Fiala received his M.A. in Choral Conducting from San Francisco State University where he studied with Joshua Habermann (Santa Fe Desert Chorale), and his B.A. in Jazz Studies from Columbia College Chicago. Also passionate about food and wine, Zane serves as the Wine Director for the nationally acclaimed San Francisco restaurant, Incanto Restaurant and Wine Bar.
International Orange Chorale of San Francisco is hailed by the San Francisco Classical Voice as "spot-on-spectacular," The International Orange Chorale of San Francisco (IOCSF), led by Artistic Director Zane Fiala, was founded in 2003 by Jeremy Samuel Faust, Elaine Robertson, and Cole Thomason-Redus. Named after the color of the Golden Gate Bridge, IOCSF is an auditioned, all-volunteer chamber choir devoted to performing established repertoire of all periods, with particular attention to 20th and 21st century music, including newly commissioned works by promising and established composers. IOCSF has gained national recognition with the 2011 ASCAP/Chorus America Award for Adventurous Programming and in June 2011 will appear in two masterclasses at Chorus America's national conference (with San Francisco Symphony Chorus Director Ragnar Bohlin), and will also perform as a featured ensemble. IOCSF has served as a resident ensemble for the San Francisco Conservatory of Music's choral composer competition (David Conte, director) and appeared on some of San Francisco's most engaging concert series.
IOCSF is committed to performing public concerts throughout the San Francisco Bay Area in order to expand the audience for choral music, and since its founding has produced exclusively free concerts to the public. IOCSF was also created to provide a community where young adult singers with extensive musical backgrounds can come together to create music of high artistic standards with their peers.
